Accession 469
01/04/05
1963 Leyland PD2A/30 with Massey H31/26R body
New in 1963, this
is one of 25 similar vehicles which were the last double deck type
bought by Exeter Corporation before the undertaking was sold to NBC
in April 1970. It was immediately assigned to the Devon General
fleet and in a general renumbering of the Exeter vehicles, 86 was
renumbered 286 to avoid clashing with an existing AEC Reliance. In
January 1971, Devon General, became part of the Western National
group under the National Bus Company. Number 286 was sold in 1980
and went through a succession of owners in preservation and as a
driver trainer before being repurchased for preservation by Exeter
City Council in 1996 to promote their green credentials. It is now
on long term loan to WHOTT, minus some interior fittings which the
Trust aims to reinstate. |
